Tragedy in Rudraprayag: Minibus Plunges into Alaknanda River, 2 Dead, 9 Still Missing | ABP NEWS
A devastating accident occurred early morning in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district when a minibus, en route to Badrinath, lost control and plunged into the raging Alaknanda River near Gholtir. Due to heavy rainfall, the river was already swollen and turbulent. The bus, reportedly carrying 19 passengers from Udaipur, Rajasthan, was swept away in the strong current. So far, two bodies have been recovered and 10 people rescued with injuries—several of whom have been hospitalized in Rudraprayag district hospital. Nine passengers, including women and children, remain missing. Rescue teams from SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, and local authorities are conducting a challenging operation in dangerous conditions, using ropes and boats to search along a 200-meter stretch of the river. Officials suggest the accident might have been caused by landslides or slippery roads due to overnight rainfall. This stretch of the Badrinath highway is known for frequent accidents, especially during the monsoon season. Last year, a similar tragedy occurred in the same area. Despite the peril, rescue efforts continue relentlessly. Authorities are urging travelers and pilgrims to remain cautious as rain continues to disrupt road safety in the region.
