Sensex down by 1049 pts, Gold prices hit new record

Sensex slumped 1049 points on Monday. The gold prices also recorded a new hight with around Rs 48000.  The fall can be attributed to the extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 31 and the disappointment in several quarters over the economic package.
As the nation enters the first day of lockdown 4 which will remain in effect till May 31, the death toll due to COVID-19 across the nation surged to 3029 and the number of total positive cases crossed the 96,000 mark on Monday morning
