Punjab Police Cracks Down on Year-Long Farmer Protest, Clears Shambu & Khanauri Borders
After nearly a year of continuous protests, Punjab Police forcibly ended the ongoing farmer agitation at the Shambu and Khanauri borders. Late at night, authorities launched an operation to clear the protest sites, using bulldozers to dismantle tents and remove temporary structures. Farmers who had been staging sit-ins were evicted from the area, and several were taken into custody.Similar action was witnessed at the Khanauri border, where police dismantled protest setups and detained multiple farmers. The crackdown marks a significant move by the administration to restore normalcy in the region, as the prolonged protests had been affecting traffic and daily movement. The farmers, led by various unions, have been demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other agricultural reforms. While the police claim that law and order have been restored, farmer leaders have condemned the action, calling it an attack on their movement. The situation remains tense as authorities maintain strict security at the cleared sites.
