Maha Dangal: Major Uproar In Bihar Over Voter List Cleanup As 35 Lakh Names Removed Ahead Of Elections

A major political storm has erupted in Bihar following the removal of nearly 35 lakh names from the voter list. According to the Election Commission, this exercise is part of a voter list purification drive, aimed at deleting names of deceased individuals, duplicate entries, and those who have permanently migrated out of the state. Reports indicate that 12 lakh voters have passed away, 175 lakh have moved out of Bihar, and 5.7 lakh entries are duplicates. Additionally, around 12% of eligible voters are yet to submit their forms, with 10 days left in the current enrollment campaign.Opposition parties have raised serious concerns, accusing the government of disenfranchising the poor, especially in the Seemanchal region. VIP leader Mukesh Sahani even threatened violence if names were unfairly removed, while AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the motives behind the sudden surge in name deletions. The opposition fears that marginalized communities are being selectively targeted. Meanwhile, the Election Commission maintains that all actions are in accordance with the law and necessary for a free and fair election process. With elections expected in November, the controversy has intensified, raising questions about transparency and political motives behind the voter list revision.
