Kapdaganda Shawl, Unique To Dongria Kondh Tribe Of Odisha Gets GI Tag | ABP News
The Kapdaganda shawl, a hand woven unique product of the Dongria Kondh tribe in Odisha has been granted the Geographical Indication or the GI tag. This handloom product is woven and embroidered by women belonging to Dongria Kondh, a tribal group residing primarily in the Niyamgiri Hills of Odisha. With the GI tag, people associated with the industry are hopeful of an increase in demand for authentic Kapdaganda shawls. "The advantages of GI tags will be that their value will increase. No one can copy them, and if anyone copies, then they have to face consequences. Secondly, their demand will increase around the world, and if any organization wants to copy their design, then they have to talk with Dongariya Shawl society. The royalty for that will go to the (Shawl) society," says Project Manager,Dongariya Kondh Development.
