Will Free Bus Service For Women Continue In Delhi? Delhi Transport Minister Says THIS
Delhi's bus services system will be improved with new electric buses from April 1. The bus fleet will be expanded to address shortages, with 1,900-2,000 new buses added by March-end.

Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced a series of key measures on Tuesday, March 18, to strengthen the capital's public transport system. He revealed that from April 1, new electric buses will start operating on Delhi’s roads, improving connectivity for commuters.
Addressing the issue of bus shortages, Singh stated, "Meetings have been held with vendors, who have assured uninterrupted bus supply. Old buses will be phased out and replaced with new ones, ensuring a steady increase in the number of operational buses."
He added that starting April 1, the city will gradually expand the bus fleet each week based on demand, with 1,900 to 2,000 new buses hitting the roads by the end of this month.
These additions will include 12-metre and 9-metre-long buses, manufactured under the 'Make in India' initiative. After resolving minor technical issues, these buses are now ready for deployment.
Bus Commute For Women
Pankaj Kumar Singh said the Delhi government will continue its free bus service for women, ensuring seamless and affordable travel. Old buses will be gradually replaced with new electric models.
Regarding the mohalla (neighbourhood) buses, vendors have been given a six-month deadline to submit the necessary documentation. Failure to comply will result in legal action.
Additionally, the 9-metre-long buses will be retained on routes where larger buses cannot function efficiently. On high-traffic routes, the number of buses will be increased. Singh stressed the ongoing efforts to make the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) profitable.
