Breaking News: Rahul Gandhi Meets Flood Affected People In Silchar, Watch Video | ABP News
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi visited Assam on Monday to meet with flood victims, as the state faces a grim situation with nearly 23 lakh people affected across 28 districts. The ongoing floods, along with landslides and storms, have resulted in a death toll of 78, with 66 deaths attributed to the deluge alone. Water levels in most rivers continue to flow above the danger mark, exacerbating the crisis. During his visit, Gandhi toured a relief camp at Thalai In Youth Care Center in Fulertal, Assam, where he interacted with the flood victims. The second wave of floods has severely impacted 3,446 villages, inundating 68,432.75 hectares of cropland and leaving nearly 23 lakh people in distress. A team from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by President Bhupen Borah, submitted a memorandum to Gandhi, urging him to bring the issue of Assam's perennial floods to the forefront in Parliament. The memorandum highlights the persistent challenges faced by the state due to recurring floods and seeks long-term solutions. Following his visit to Assam, Gandhi is scheduled to fly to Imphal for the next leg of his tour in Manipur, where he will continue to assess and address local issues. The visit underscores the critical need for effective flood management and disaster relief measures in the region.
