Awareness programmes held across the country on World Environment Day | ABP News

Events were held across the country on Wednesday to celebrate World Environment Day. Awareness programmes were held in many towns and cities, where school children and local residents planted saplings to send the message about the importance of saving the environment for future generations. In Sircilla town of Telangana, the local police marked the day by organizing a bicycle rally. Authorities organised a plantation and cleaning drive in Assam's Hailakandi town. Students who participated in the event were taught about the importance of planting trees and protecting the environment. A group of local residents in Haryana's Karnal town organised a unique langar in which instead of food, various fruit bearing plants were distributed for free. An environmentalist in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi city, protested outside a Tasmac shop, demanding that the government start a bottle buyback program to keep the environment clean. The World Environment Day is a United Nations initiative, celebrated every year on June 5th to spread awareness about environmental issues.
