Meet 'Prashant' Aka Croissant: Trend About Popular French Pastry That Started From A Viral Instagram Reel
Britannia updated its bio to "Prashant, naam to suna hi hoga" (You must have heard the name Prashant) and even modified the spelling on their croissant packaging to 'Prashant'.

A hilarious mispronounciation of the 'croissant' as 'Prashant' in an Instagram reel has taken the internet by storm and sparked a wave of creative marketing campaigns by various prominent brands.
The trend started after a digital creator on Instagram mispronounced the name of the bread in a light-hearted video, which rapidly gained traction and amassed millions of views, prompting widespread amusement among netizens.
In the reel, which has received over 16 million views, the digital creator can be seen playfully guessing bakery dish names when he mistakenly calls the croissant 'Prashant'. The netizens then flooded the comments referring to Britannia, urging the brand to make it the official name, which it later did.

However, Britannia not just rebranded its croissant, it also sent the digital creator a special 'Prashant'/croissant hamper as a gesture acknowledging the funny mistake which made both its product and the creator viral.
Shekhar Agarwal, General Manager of Marketing at Britannia, explained the strategy behind this move and told Exchange4Media: "This was not just a momentary marketing stunt but part of a larger vision to familiarise consumers with a novel product offering. By tapping into the viral 'Prashant-Croissant' meme, we created a connection with audiences that was both humorous and aligned with our broader goal of building category awareness."
Not just Britannia, but several other companies including Swiggy, PinkVilla, and several bakeries, jumped on the viral trend.

Social media users are also calling croissant as 'Prashant' now. "The world might call it 'croissant' but to me this is forever going to be known as 'prashant'. (due to an iconic reason)," a social media user wrote on Facebook.
This is not the first time that Britannia has capitalised on a trend revolving around croissant. Last year, the brand's 'Treat Croisssant' product made waves after it launched a one-day internship program with Rs 3 lakh stipend for those who pronounced the bread's name correctly. This campaign was a huge hit and witnessed participation from around 25,000 people.
