'I’m Free From Today': Assam Man Celebrates Divorce With Milk Bath, Video Goes Viral
After finalizing his divorce, an Assam man celebrates freedom with a 40-litre milk bath. The viral video sparks reactions across social media.

In a scene that's taken the internet by storm, a man from Assam marked the end of his marriage not with sorrow—but with celebration. And not just any celebration. Manik Ali, a resident of the Nalbari district in Lower Assam, chose to bathe himself in milk to honor what he called his “freedom day” after his divorce was finalized.
Captured in a now-viral video, Ali is seen standing barefoot outside his home, a large plastic sheet beneath him, surrounded by four buckets filled with milk. With each bucket, he douses himself in the white liquid, smiling broadly as he announces, “I am free from today.”
The video quickly spread across social media platforms, attracting a whirlwind of reactions from viewers across the country. Some were amused, others intrigued, and many simply surprised by the dramatic nature of his celebration.
The incident is of Baraliyapar village in Assam's Nalbari district. The man, identified as Manik Ali, performed the unusual act as a symbolic gesture of cleansing and emotional release after being granted divorce from his wife.

Ali explained the reason behind his unconventional ritual in the video itself. “She kept eloping with her lover. I stayed silent for the sake of our family’s peace,” he said, referring to his now-ex-wife. Locals confirmed that the woman had run away at least twice during the course of their marriage. Eventually, the couple reached a mutual agreement to legally part ways.
“My advocate informed me yesterday that the divorce was finalized. So today, I’m bathing in milk to celebrate my freedom,” Ali added, visibly elated.
According to reports, Ali used around 40 liters of milk for the symbolic cleansing. In local culture, milk often represents purity and new beginnings—a detail that adds a deeper layer of meaning to his unique act.
While some social media users saw the video as comic relief, others viewed it as a powerful, if eccentric, statement of personal liberation.
The footage from Nalbari has since become a talking point online, with hashtags related to the video trending across platforms. Whether seen as catharsis, spectacle, or simply a viral moment, Manik Ali’s milk bath is now etched into the growing archive of internet sensations born out of everyday life in India.
