'Classy': Air India's New Inflight Safety Video Celebrating Indian Dance Forms Goes Viral. WATCH

The airline stated that the video was created in partnership with writer Prasoon Joshi, singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan, and filmmaker Bharatbala.

Air India released a new in-flight safety video on Friday, honoring Indian classical and folk dance genres. The video, named 'Safety Mudras', has dancers performing Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Ghoomar, Bihu, and Giddha while a narrator recounts passenger safety advice. The video has also gone viral on social media.

Sharing the video on official X handle, Air India stated: "For centuries, Indian classical dance and folk-art forms have served as medium of storytelling and instruction. Today, they tell another story, that of inflight safety. Presenting Air India’s new Safety Film, inspired by the rich and diverse dance traditions of India."

Each dancer narrates a distinct section of the safety guidelines and conveys it with 'mudras' (hand gestures).

The airline stated that the video was created in partnership with writer Prasoon Joshi, singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan, and filmmaker Bharatbala.

The video created the buzz over the social media with people reacting to the video. One X user stated: "Dear Air India, you just stole my heart." While another stated: "Classy! Garba was missing though."

"Wow! Absolutely stunning and gorgeous. Just loved it . Keep surprising us with your best service and connectivity," said another X user.

"Air India's new inflight safety video integrates safety instructions with mudras or dance expressions in eight diverse dance forms -- Bharatnatyam, Bihu, Kathak, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Odissi, Ghoomar, andGiddha -- from around the country. Each featured dance form presents a specific safety instruction, providing vital information in an engaging and culturally immersive manner," the airline's statement was quoted by PTI in its report.

The safety video will be initially available on Air India's newly launched A350 aircraft, which are outfitted with cutting-edge inflight entertainment screens. It would be gradually rolled out to other Air India planes.
