Industrialist Anand Mahindra, who is an active social media user, took to microblogging site X, formerly Twitter to share about the iconic double-decker buses of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bidding adieu to the streets of Mumbai. Mahindra in an emotional tweet called it the theft of his "most important childhood memories."

"Hello, Mumbai Police? I’d like to report the theft of one of my most important childhood memories," wrote Mahindra on X.

The Mumbai Police replied to Mahindra by saying, "We’ve received a 'nostalgic heist' report from Anand Mahindra Sir".

"We can clearly see the theft, but we cannot take possession of it. Those B.E.S.T cherished memories are safely kept in your heart, and among all Mumbaikars," the Mumbai Police further wrote.

The business tycoon continued the exchange by replying to the department’s tweet with words of appreciation.

"You guys are something else," wrote Mahindra adding a few clapping emoticons.

The red double-decker buses that were shut on Friday, September 15, had been in operation in Mumbai's for more than 80 years.

"Mumbai Police’s Social media team, time & again, has won hearts! The word Police had a sense of hesitation attached to it, but
@MumbaiPolice has removed that through creativity & emotional outreach! Kudos to the team!," wrote another user.

"The one who is handling the page, deserves a raise," commented a third.

"Can we get one parked in all bus depots please. I have fond memories of travelling in them," wrote a fourth.
