Viral Video: Stray Dog Spotted Climbing To The Top Of Egypt’s Great Pyramid — WATCH

The sight was spotted by paragliders while flying over the Great Pyramids at sunrise earlier this week. The next day another adventurer discovered the same dog safely descending the pyramid.

In an unexpected sight, a stray hound was discovered around the summit of one of the ancient wonders of Egypt’s famous Great Pyramids. The videos of the dog quickly went viral on social media. 

The viral video was posted on Instagram by US paraglider Marshall Mosher. He along with his fellow paragliders spotted the sight while flying over the Great Pyramids at sunrise earlier this week. “We noticed something running back and forth on top of the pyramid. One person thought it was a mountain lion,” Mosher told CNN Travel.

One of the paragliders quickly grabbed their phone and zoomed in to the top of Khafre, the second tallest pyramid, which is strictly off-limits to people. To their surprise, they saw a dog chasing birds at the summit of the 448-foot (136-meter) structure.

Mosher recalls feeling a bit concerned. “Maybe he was stuck up there,” he thought for a while. But his concern vanished soon. “If he got himself up, he can get himself down unless he found some secret portal that helped him teleport to the top of the pyramids,” he said jokingly.

The next day, still curious about the dog’s fate, they flew over the pyramid again but didn’t spot him. However, another adventurer captured footage of what seemed to be the same dog safely descending the pyramid.

Mosher further explained that it’s hard to say if it was the same dog since there are hundreds of strays around the Pyramids complex, often hanging out near the base. He’s now trying to connect with animal shelters in Cairo to help find safer homes for these adventurous strays.

Though Mosher has been creating content for a while, he was surprised by the attention to the dog’s adventure. “I thought the opportunity to fly over the pyramids was decently interesting news, but no one cares about that,” he said.

Mosher regularly paraglides over the Great Pyramids of Giza during an annual event organised by SkyOne Egypt, giving a unique perspective of the historic site. “I can see why the dog wanted to go up there. It’s definitely the best view for Cairo street dog that I can think exists,” he joked.

While drawing a connection between the dog and Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the dead, who is often depicted as a man with a jackal head, one of the online commentators said, "Not a dog. That is the egiptian God Anubis. He is considered the guide of the dead in the afterlife and the protector of the tombs. That's why it is over the piramid."

 

"If he pees there all Egypt belongs him," another joked.

 

The next said, "None of his friends are gonna believe him."
