Telangana Minister KTR Writes To Centre Urging For Funds To Develop Urban Areas In State
K.T. Rama Rao said that the Telangana government had made several requests to the Center seeking assistance for taking up different development works in Hyderabad
Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday wrote to the Center seeking a special package in the upcoming Union Budget 2023–24 for the development of Hyderabad and urban areas in the state.
In a media statement, KT Rama Rao said that the Telangana government had made several requests to the Center seeking assistance for taking up different development works in Hyderabad and other towns, but there was only disappointment.
The Telangana government was devoted to promoting urban expansion and development. He argued that the BJP government needs to show Telangana that it is committed to the state by allocating the necessary funding.
Rama Rao said that as 47 percent of the state’s population lives in urban areas, the state government introduced a green budget, has been implementing TS-bPASS and other schemes and has also increased the number of urban local bodies from 68 to 142.

He suggested that the Center either allocate enough funds for the development projects being undertaken in Hyderabad, Warangal, and other ULBs or else make special packages for the cities of Hyderabad and Warangal.
He sought from the Center Rs. 450 crore for the proposed Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in the Hyderabad Urban Agglomeration area for a 20-km length at a cost of Rs. 3,050 crore. He also requested Rs 800 crore to build link roads in 104 corridors, which would cost Rs 2,400 crore.
The minister also urged the Centre to make provisions in the Union Budget to allocate funds for other projects of the state, including the Airport Metro, Strategic Nala Development Project (SNDP), Musi River Development Corporation (MRDC), and Telangana Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDC), among others.
