On Camera: MLAs Of DMK Alliance Parties Raise Slogans Against Governor RN Ravi In TN Assembly

MLAs of DMK alliance parties raised slogans in Tamil Nadu Assembly against Governor RN Ravi after the latter alleged that Dravidian politics as "regressive politics".

The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu and Governor RN Ravi have been at loggerheads for quite some time now. But, the Governor's recent remarks alleging Dravidian politics as "regressive politics" and also suggested change of state's name to 'Tamilagam'.

In response to Governor's comments, a ruckus broke out in Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday after Governor RN Ravi began his address as legislators of DMK alliance parties — Congress and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) — have raised slogans against the Governor.

The DMK and allies accused the Governor of toeing the BJP's ideological position and they raised slogans against Governor, saying, "don't impose BJP, RSS ideology. This is not Nagaland, this is proud Tamil Nadu."

There was a demand for banning online gambling games by the leaders in the Assembly as the legislators claimed that the Governor has not given his assent to the Bill, which was introduced in the previous session. 21 Bills are pending with Raj Bhavan as of December 2022, said an ANI report.

On Wednesday, Governor Ravi sparked a fresh controversy when he remarked that name of Tamil Nadu should be changed to "Tamilagam".

"Unfortunately, in Tamil Nadu there has been regressive politics that we are Dravidians, and by virtue of the Constitution, we have been brought together. The entire effort has been created in half a century to reinforce this narrative that we are not part of the nation, an integral part of the nation. And even a different kind of narrative has been created. Everything applicable for the whole of the country, Tamil Nadu will say soon," said the Governor, as quoted by news agency ANI.
