'Insincere Effort': BRS MLC Kavitha On Telangana Govt Passing Resolution For Caste Survey In Assembly

BRS MLC K Kavitha expressed dissatisfaction with the government's decision to present a resolution instead of a bill.

After the passage of a resolution in the Telangana Legislative Assembly to conduct a comprehensive household caste survey, BRS MLC K Kavitha criticized the Congress-led government's approach, labeling it as insincere and inadequate for the needs of the OBC section of the state. On Friday, the resolution, proposed by Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, was passed after deliberations in the Assembly. However, Kavitha expressed dissatisfaction with the government's decision to present a resolution instead of a bill.

According to ANI, BRS MLC K Kavitha on the resolution of the caste survey in Telangana Assembly said, "Current Telangana government led by the Congress party has made the most insincere effort yesterday in the assembly by placing a resolution, whereas they should have been bringing a bill instead."

"Every party on the floor of the assembly had committed that if a bill was brought, we would support it to this extent. Yet the government chose to place a resolution. This shows the insincerity of the government towards the OBC section of the state," she said.

On Friday, the resolution passed by the Assembly aimed to initiate a door-to-door household caste survey intended to facilitate the planning and implementation of development initiatives for backward classes, SC and ST citizens, and other marginalized sections.

"That this house resolves to take up a comprehensive door-to-door household survey (socio, economic, educational, employment, political and caste survey ('Kula Ganana') of the entire Telangana State as per the decision of Council of Ministers of 4th February 2024 so as to plan and implement various socio, economic, educational, employment and political opportunities for the amelioration of Backward Classes, SC and ST citizens of the state and other weaker sections of the state," the resolution said, as per PTI.
