Strongly Support Uniform Civil Code, Will Empower Women, Says Telangana Governor Soundararajan

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan came out in support of the Uniform Civil Code, saying if the proposed law was implemented, it would empower women in the country. "I strongly support Uniform Civil Code (UCC). It empowers the women. Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) already said in the house if there are five-six brothers, each one canot have a separate law," ANI quoted Soundararajan as saying.
"So we have to have it. I am a very stronger supporter of it," she further added.
Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said his party would oppose the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) if a bill was introduced in Parliament. The BRS president said that the move to introduce UCC was part of the Centre's agenda to create divisions among people.

KCR emphasised that India, with its rich diversity of cultures, traditions, castes, and religions, serves as a role model for promoting unity amidst diversity in the world. He stated that the proposed UCC threatens to undermine this diversity and unity.
KCR stated that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) vehemently opposes the UCC in order to protect India's cultural and religious diversity.
Last week, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi lashed out at Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan over his views on UCC and said if he had to “shower praises” on a government, then he should resign from his post and officially join the BJP, news agency ANI reported.
"As a Governor, he should not be showering praise on a government. He should resign from the governorship and officially join the BJP," ANI quoted Owaisi as saying. His remarks come a day after the Kerala Governor said people should be encouraged to voice their concerns on UCC, and the government would take care of the sensitivities.
