Telangana: Gang Rape Survivor Commits Suicide By Consuming Pesticide

The woman, who had lost her mother at an early age, grew up without much assistance from her father who was a truck driver.

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide after being gang-raped by four persons, including a constable, in Mahabubabad district in Telangana on February 18.

According to Mahabubabad police, four people have been identified and arrested in connection to the case. On February 17, the victim, a 23-year-old woman, went to the house of an auto driver (25) to do some work. Three other young men were also there at that time. One of the three accused was an MPTC member's husband (30), a constable (28) of Mamunur 4th Battalion and another florist (25), police said.

As per police, the four people gang-raped the woman after which she returned home on February 18 at 2am. The woman, embarrassed after the ordeal, consumed pesticide in the early hours of February 18 following which she had to be rushed to the nearby hospital by her neighbours.

On Tuesday night, the woman died while undergoing treatment. "The woman wrote that the four accused had raped her and that she had committed suicide due to embarrassment," the police inspector said as was stated in the suicide letter. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
