Telangana Election: Actor-Turned-Politician Vijayashanti Joins Congress After Quitting BJP
After she joined the party, Congress announced the appointment of Vijayashanti as Chief Coordinator of the Campaign and Planning Committee for Telangana Assembly Elections.
Actor-turned-politician Vijayashanti, who resigned from BJP, joined Congress in Hyderabad on Friday. She officially joined the Congress in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge. After she joined the party, Congress issued a release announcing the appointment of Vijayashanti as Chief Coordinator of the Campaign and Planning Committee for the ensuing Telangana Assembly Elections 2023 with immediate effect.
According to ANI, former MP and actor Vijayashanti, who resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party recently, joined the Congress party in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, in Hyderabad yesterday.

The release attested by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said, "Congress President has approved the proposal for the appointment of Chief Coordinator and Convenors of the Campaign and Planning Committee for the ensuing assembly elections to Telangana - 2023, with immediate effect. Chief Coordinator- Smt. Vijayashanthi."
The release listed the convenors including Samarsimha Reddy, Pushpaleela, Mallu Ravi, M Kodanda Reddy, Vem Narender Reddy, Eravaty Anil, Ramlu Naik, Pitla Nageshwer Rao, Obedullah Kothwal, Ramesh Mudiraj, Parijata Reddy, Siddeshwer, Rammurty Naik, Ali Bin Ibrahim Maskathi and Deepak Jaha.
In 1998, Vijayashanti joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Later, she quit BJP and floated her own party.
Vijayashanti then merged her party with TRS (now BRS) in 2009. She was elected as an MP from Medak Lok Sabha seat.
Later, she joined the Congress due to differences with KCR. She contested the same seat but lost the elections.
In 2020, she joined the BJP.
Vijayashanti is widely referred to as the "Lady Superstar", "Lady Amitabh" and "The Action Queen of Indian Cinema".
