'Two Sides Of The Same Coin': Congress Tears Into BJP-BRS In Poll-Bound Telangana

Addressing a press conference in Telangana's Rangareddy, Congress leader KC Venugopal said the BJP and BRS are "two sides of the same coin".

New Delhi: Launching a scathing attack on Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress said both BJP and BRS are “two sides of the same coin”, news agency ANI reported. Addressing a press conference in Rangareddy on Friday, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said, “Our fight is against PM Modi. Our principal enemy in politics is the BJP and their ideology. They (KCR's party BRS) have been supporting anti-democratic laws in the Parliament, and in a way, they are against the people.”

Taking potshots at the Telangana CM, Venugopal said, “Here (in Telangana) he (KCR) wants some Muslim votes that's why he is acting like he is anti-BJP but in reality, they (BJP and BRS) are two sides of the same coin.”

Drawing a parallel with their government in neighbouring Karnataka, the Congress said if voted to power, the party will deliver six guarantees to the people of Telangana.

Addressing the media, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “We formed a government in Karnataka with a huge majority. BJP still has not announced their Leader of Opposition in Karnataka even after four months of the assembly elections. In Karnataka, the Centre also tried to stop the 'Anna Bhagya' scheme but we managed to resist their efforts. If voted to power, we will declare six guarantees for the people of Telangana.”

Exuding confidence in forming the government with a thumping majority, the Congress leader further said, “In the upcoming elections, we are sure to get a clear majority from the people. And after the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, we are certain that Congress will form the government in Telangana.”

KC Venugopal also talked about the Congress Working Committee meeting that is set to begin in Telangana from Saturday.

"Tomorrow we will hold the first CWC meeting in Hyderabad. We will discuss the strategy for the upcoming elections. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will preside over the meeting. Senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will also be there.

Responding to the Congress leader's remarks, BRS MLC K Kavitha told PTI, "As far as BRS is concerned, we have always said, that both national parties BJP and Congress are the same, that's why we maintain an arm's distance. The investigation in (National Herald case) is not going anywhere, so we believe that there's an understanding between the Congress and BJP."

Notably, assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram are scheduled to be held later this year.
