Hyderabad: For the first time, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to send a BJP leader from Telangana to the Upper House as the party high command decided to nominate the Telangana BJP leader Dr K Laxman to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
BJP OBC Morcha National President Laxman was on the list of four Rajya Sabha candidates released by the party high command on Monday evening. High command picked party loyalist Laxman over Garikapati Mohan Rao, who defected from TDP to BJP. On Tuesday, Laxman to leave for Lucknow to file his nomination. Laxman's name was announced along with that of Mithilesh Kumar, also from Uttar Pradesh.
From 2016 to 2020, Laxman served the BJP party as Telangana state president. He was elected MLA from Musheerabad in the 1999 and 2014 Assembly elections.

On June 10, elections will be held in 15 states for the Rajya Sabha seats to get vacant. The seats are to get vacant between June 21 and August 1. 11 seats are from UP and six from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Four seats from Andhra Pradesh and two seats from Telangana will be vacant.
Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi were among those who completed their terms. The tenure of senior Congress leaders Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Kapil Sibal and Ambika Soni will also end soon. YSRCP MP Vijayasaireddy, BJP MPs TG Venkatesh, Y Sujana Chaudhary and Suresh Prabhu are vacant from Andhra Pradesh. Nekkanti Bhaskar Rao, who continues as Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha, will end his term on July 1.
