Telangana Allocates Rs 7,300 Cr To Revamp Infrastructure In Over 26,000 Govt Schools

The "Mana Ooru - Mana Badi" program is to be implemented for 19,84,167 students in 26,065 government and local bodies schools

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in a meeting on Monday has decided to allocate Rs 7,289 crore for the "Mana Ooru - Mana Badi" program which focuses mostly on the comprehensive development of over 26,065 government schools in the state and an enhancement in infrastructure.

In a release, the cabinet has stated that the "Mana Ooru - Mana Badi" program is to be implemented for 19,84,167 students in 26,065 government and local bodies schools. The release further stated that the measures would be taken to improve all the infrastructure facilities and offer qualitative education in government institutions at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore for the next 2 years.

The allocated sum of Rs 7,289.54 crore is to be spent for the development of government institutions in three phases, while for the first phase Rs 3,497.62 crore is to be spent for the enhancement of 9,123 schools.

The cabinet also discussed the resentment over the huge fees in the private institutions. To make education more available to the rural poor and the middle class, the cabinet on Monday has decided to bring in a new Act to regulate fees in private schools, junior and degree colleges and to introduce English as the medium of instruction in the government schools from the coming academic year.

The cabinet further has selected a 10-member sub-committee to study and prepare guidelines. Minister KT Rama Rao has taken this news to Twitter and congratulated Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy.
