Hyderabad: 24 People Suffer Eye-Related Injuries During Diwali Celebrations, Taken To Hospital

As many as 24 people including children were taken to hospital after sustaining eye-related injuries while bursting firecrackers during Diwali celebrations on Monday in Hyderabad's Mehdipatnam area.

Of the 24 injured, 12 patients are being treated at the state-run Sarojini Devi eye hospital and the rest of them were Outpatient Department (OPD) cases.

Four People Suffer Burn Injuries In Jaipur

Four people were admitted to the state-run Sawai Man Singh Hospital after suffering burn injuries while bursting crackers on Diwali, an official said. Sixty others were discharged after primary treatment, he added.

Superintendent Achal Sharma said 64 patients arrived at the hospital from Monday night to Tuesday morning for treatment of burn injuries suffered while bursting crackers. Apart from four critical patients admitted for treatment, the others were sent home after first aid, he said.

Of the 64 patients, 40 were treated by plastic surgery specialists and 24 by eye specialists, he added. Sharma added that of the four patients admitted to the hospital, three are undergoing treatment under eye specialists while a 65-year-old woman with 90 per cent burn injuries is being treated in the plastic surgery unit.

Meanwhile, a day after Diwali, air quality was recorded as 'poor' or 'very poor' in Delhi-NCR. Other cities with poor air quality included Rajasthan's Jaipur (265), Ajmer (226) and Kota (216); Gujarat's Ahmedabad (243), Belgaum (221) in Karnataka; Jabalpur (235), Katni (237) and Dewas (207) in Madhya Pradesh; in UP, Agra (206), Lucknow (241), Kanpur (218) and Khurja (238); Begusarai (325) in Bihar and Tamil Nadu capital Chennai (229). In Chennai (229), the air quality was recorded as 'poor', according to official figures.
