Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Telangana on July 29 has been postponed in light of the ongoing heavy rains and floods in the state. Shah was scheduled to attend multiple programmes in Hyderabad, including a meeting with social influencers at Film Nagar. Additionally, Shah was to hold discussions with state BJP leaders to strategize for the upcoming Assembly elections. This was Amit Shah's first meeting with the state BJP chief after the recent leadership change. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy was recently appointed as the new BJP state president. The state BJP had eagerly awaited this visit and had initially planned a public meeting in Khammam to mark the occasion. Safety considerations have prompted the cancellation, and the party sources are now in the process of determining a suitable alternative date for the rescheduled visit.

This is the second time in two months that Amit Shah's visit to Telangana has been postponed. Initially scheduled for June 15, his earlier visit was also postponed due to severe cyclonic conditions along the West Coast, affecting the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. During that time, Shah personally supervised rescue operations in the affected regions.

Meanwhile, in response to heavy rains and floods, Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has instructed District Collectors to conduct comprehensive relief and rehabilitation programmes in the affected regions. Holding a teleconference with the Collectors, she assessed the ongoing measures and emphasised the importance of relief efforts in flood-prone areas, as well as railway stations and bus stands where stranded passengers require assistance. The directive includes sending essential supplies like blankets, bed sheets, and additional medicines to the impacted districts.

Commending the District Collectors for their collaborative efforts with the district administration in averting loss of life and property during the persistent heavy rains, she urged officials to continue working together as a cohesive team. The Chief Secretary mandated that District Collectors, CPs/SPs remain stationed at the district headquarters to continually monitor the situation. Furthermore, she stressed the significance of public awareness about precautionary measures to be taken in light of the ongoing heavy rains and floods.

To ensure prompt medical assistance, the Chief Secretary ordered all primary health centres, community health centres, district hospitals, and private hospitals within the affected districts to operate 24/7. The coordinated efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the calamity and provide crucial support to the affected communities.
