X owner Elon Musk recently posted two intriguing tweets spotlighting his latest venture: Grok, the AI chatbot integrated into the X platform. Musk's tweets celebrated milestones, one highlighting Grok’s impressive ability to interpret and explain memes, sparking excitement and interesting reactions from the X community.

In another post on X, Musk invited users to upload medical images to Grok to receive its “non-doctor opinion.” The billionaire shared that Grok had successfully identified a diagnosis for one of his friends using their scans.

Grok's History

Grok is the brainchild of xAI, a company Musk established in July 2023 with a vision to create an AI that prioritizes truth-seeking. Musk launched xAI following his dissatisfaction with the direction of OpenAI, a company he co-founded in 2015. Since then, he’s voiced concerns over OpenAI’s shift from its original non-profit roots toward a profit-driven model under CEO Sam Altman, which coincided with the launch of ChatGPT.

Musk has also criticised OpenAI’s approach to training ChatGPT, alleging that it censors discussions around sensitive social issues like gender, politics, and religion.

In contrast, Grok aims to be more open and direct, engaging in topics that other AI systems may avoid. Musk has designed Grok to have a playful sense of humour and, in “unhinged mode,” to provide responses that range from witty to sarcastic. This approach is intended to make Grok a refreshingly candid alternative to other AI, engaging users on complex social issues without restraint.
