Sony Releases PS5 Pro But It Won't Be Launched In India Anytime Soon, Here's Why

Sony said, “PS5 Pro will not be available in some countries (which presently includes India) where the 6GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) has not yet been allowed.”

Sony India has revealed that the eagerly awaited PlayStation 5 Pro, featuring next-generation hardware upgrades and support for Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be), will not be launching in India and other regions where the 6GHz band required for Wi-Fi 7 has not received regulatory approval. Sony in an official statement said, “PS5 Pro will not be available in some countries (which presently includes India) where the 6GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) has not yet been allowed.”

The regulatory restrictions present a major disappointment for Indian gamers eager to explore the newest features of Sony’s console lineup. The PS5 Pro, engineered for superior graphics and immersive gameplay, depends on the advanced connectivity of Wi-Fi 7 to maximize its performance.

This latest Wi-Fi standard offers extremely high speeds and minimal latency, which enhances streaming quality, accelerates downloads, and supports fluid online gaming—essential upgrades for a console like the PS5 Pro, crafted to deliver exceptional gaming experiences.

The PS5 Pro’s dependency on Wi-Fi 7 highlights a growing shift across the tech industry, where devices increasingly demand higher bandwidth for optimal connectivity. While regions like the U.S., European Union, and parts of East Asia have authorized the 6GHz band essential for Wi-Fi 7, Indian authorities have not yet permitted its commercial use.

This regulatory gap affects the rollout of devices relying on this connectivity standard. As a result, while Wi-Fi 7-enabled products like the PS5 Pro advance in other markets, Indian gamers may face delays until the 6GHz band is cleared for use domestically.

PS5 Pro: What Do We Know

The PS5 Pro, introduced as a step up from the standard PS5, comes equipped with a custom AMD processor and upgraded graphics, enabling native 4K gameplay and even 8K support for select titles. Players can look forward to improved ray tracing, faster frame rates, and expanded storage options for a premium gaming experience.

At the heart of these improvements is Wi-Fi 7, which promises speeds up to 46 Gbps—far surpassing the capabilities of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E. This enhanced connectivity is ideal for bandwidth-intensive tasks like streaming and downloading high-resolution game content. With Wi-Fi 7, the PS5 Pro is expected to deliver smoother multiplayer sessions, reduced lag, and an overall boost to network performance.
