WhatsApp Beta Users Face Green Screen Issue, Here's What We Know

Reports reveal that Android users running WhatsApp beta version 2.24.24.5 are experiencing an issue where the entire screen turns green and becomes unresponsive when they attempt to open a chat.

WhatsApp continuously works to introduce new features to its consumers with the aim of enhancing their overall user experience. WhatsApp often tries these new features among select users by releasing it in beta versions. While some features that have been released this way have proved to be awesome, some haven't. Nonetheless, trying early versions often come with risks of its own such as encountering bugs, and it seems that WhatsApp beta users have run into a particularly disruptive one.

This isn't to be mistaken with the persistent green lines that can appear on OLED displays due to hardware damage. Instead, in this case, the whole screen flashes green only while WhatsApp is open, and it returns to normal once the app is closed.

The good news? This glitch appears isolated to the beta version on Android devices. Users on the stable version of WhatsApp, as well as iOS beta testers, are unaffected by this issue. Let us go over how you can resolve this.

What To Do About The Green Screen

Meta is likely to roll out an update to fix this bug, though there’s no official confirmation on when that might happen, especially given the issue is contained within the beta version. If waiting isn’t an option, the simplest fix is to exit the beta program. However, some users report that downgrading from beta to the stable version hasn’t fully resolved the green screen issue.

Alternatively, you can use WhatsApp on another device, like a laptop, tablet, or iPhone, which may offer a temporary solution. If all else fails, uninstalling WhatsApp and reinstalling the latest stable version should do the trick. Just remember to back up your chats on Google Cloud first to avoid losing important messages.
