Jio 5G Beta Trial Starts In Four Cities Today. Know How True 5G Welcome Offer Works

Invited Jio True 5G customers will not be charged an additional amount for 5G data during the beta trial and will only have to bear the cost of their existing 4G service.

New Delhi: Reliance Jio has rolled out its beta trial of True-5G services on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra on Wednesday in four cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Varanasi. "Dussehra symbolises the triumph over hurdles caused by legacy technologies such as 2G, with knowledge and wisdom that Jio True 5G will genuinely enable," the company said.

Users can continue to avail of this beta trial until the network coverage of a city is substantially complete to provide the best coverage and user experience to every customer, according to the company.

How Jio 5G Welcome Offer works

The 'Welcome' Offer is being launched in four cities for Jio users. The 5G beta trial will be available by invitation. These customers will get unlimited 5G data with up to over 1 Gbps speeds. The beta trial service for other cities will be announced progressively as cities keep getting ready. The company said that the invited ‘Jio Welcome Offer’ users will be automatically upgraded to the Jio True 5G service without needing to change their existing Jio SIM or 5G handset.

The company is also working with all handset brands to enable their 5G handsets to work with Jio True 5G services so that customers have the most comprehensive range of 5G devices to choose from.

Also, note that invited customers will not be charged an additional amount for 5G data during the beta trial and will only have to bear the cost of their existing 4G service, according to the Economic Times report. In fact, those invited will not be required to change their existing Jio SIM or 5G handset as the service will be automatically upgraded to Jio True 5G.

Customers who will get access to 5G services in this beta trial will be notified via SMS and other platforms, reported India Today.

It is to be noted that the prices for Jio’s 5G plans are yet to be announced. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani had earlier hinted that the 5G services will be affordable.

Three-fold advantage of Reliance Jio’s True-5G services

Standalone 5G architecture: True 5G is an advanced network with zero dependency on 4G network. It features powerful functionalities like low latency, massive machine-to-machine communication, 5G voice, edge computing, and network slicing. It is also superior to 4G-based non-standalone networks.

Largest and best mix of spectrum: Jio boasts the largest wireless spectrum for 5G across three bands — 700MHz, 3,500MHz, and 26GHz. This will offer Jio an added advantage over other telcos in terms of coverage.

Carrier aggregation: The 5G frequencies are combined into a single robust “data highway” using an advanced technology called Carrier Aggregation offering combination of coverage, capacity, quality, and affordability.
