The meeting took place at Blair House, where Musk, who serves as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the Trump administration, welcomed PM Modi.
Accompanying Musk were three of his children — X, Strider, and Azure.
In a symbolic gesture, Musk presented the Prime Minister with a Starship hexagonal heatshield tile, a component used in SpaceX’s spacecraft.
PM Modi tweeted after the meeting, "Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.’"

Strengthening US-India Technological Ties
The discussions followed Musk’s engagement with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. PM Modi was joined by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The meeting underscored India's push for technological partnerships with the United States.
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the discussion covered multiple areas, including sustainable development, AI, space exploration, and governance reforms. The meeting was part of PM Modi’s broader agenda to deepen technological cooperation between India and the US.
"Their discussion also touched on opportunities to deepen cooperation in emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, and good governance. Mr. Musk was accompanied by family members for the meeting," the PMO said in its statement.
A Diplomatic Visit With Strategic Goals
This marks PM Modi’s first visit to the US since Donald Trump began his second term in office. The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes key discussions with top US officials, and he is also scheduled to meet President Trump along with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
The Modi-Musk meeting highlights India's focus on fostering innovation and technological advancements while ensuring that businesses like Starlink can play a role in India’s digital expansion.
