In the monthly compliance report, both these social media companies claimed that they have removed posts against the dignity of women and children, respecting the law of India.
The report came in compliance with the new social media rules introduced by the Centre. According to the new IT rules, online platforms that have over 5 million users need to publish compliance reports every month stating details of complaints received and action taken on them. This is the first such report released by Facebook.
In its report, Facebook said that it conducted proactive monitoring through AI and highlighted that action rate of over 95 percent was observed across most content categories on its platform. Instagram on the other hand reported that an action rate of over 80 percent was recorded in a span of one month.
Categories monitored by Facebook include adult nudity, hate speech, terrorist propaganda, suicide and self-injury, violent & graphic content, drugs & spam, among others. Instagram too, has proactive monitoring for most content, barring spam.
Reacting at the report, Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday appreciated digital giants for voluntary removal of offensive posts as per new IT rules and termed it a big step towards transparency.
