Samsung Galaxy S25 Series To Cut Manufacturing Costs By Featuring M13 Display Instead Of M14? Here's What We Know

M14 displays can achieve higher peak brightness levels, enhancing overall visibility and colour vibrancy.

Samsung is reportedly making cost-saving decisions for the displays in its highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series, which is expected to debut in January. This new lineup will include three models: the Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. According to sources, the company plans to utilize M13 organic materials for the screens, a choice that allows for reduced manufacturing expenses.

In contrast, both Google’s Pixel 9 Pro and Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro are equipped with more advanced M14 materials, also produced by Samsung Display. This indicates a shift on Samsung's part, as it appears the tech giant is opting for the less expensive M13 materials to enhance its profit margins. However, consumers should not expect these savings to translate into lower prices for the upcoming devices.

What Difference Does It Make?

When comparing M13 and M14 materials, the advantages of the latter are notable. M14 materials offer approximately 20-30 per cent greater efficiency and a lifespan that is 10-20 per cent longer. Additionally, M14 displays can achieve higher peak brightness levels, enhancing overall visibility and colour vibrancy. The speculation surrounding this decision initially emerged from South Korea but has also been corroborated by industry expert Ross Young, the founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants, known for providing reliable insights into the smartphone supply chain.

Despite the change in materials, it’s important to note that the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to retain the Gorilla Glass Armor that was introduced with its predecessor. This particular glass significantly reduces screen reflectivity, meaning that the device can make better use of its brightness, as it does not need to compete with reflections as aggressively. As a result, users may still enjoy a premium viewing experience, even with the shift to M13 displays.
