Samsung Galaxy S25 Leaks: Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra Tipped To Get Seamless A/B Updates

Samsung Galaxy S25, with A/B updates, will now get system updates installed in the background.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Leaks: Samsung is gearing up to make firmware updates more convenient with the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, which will reportedly feature seamless update support. This long-awaited functionality promises to reduce device downtime during system upgrades.

Background Installations, No More Waiting

As reported by Android Authority, leaked files reveal that the Galaxy S25 Ultra, along with the standard Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus, will support seamless A/B updates. This means system updates can now be installed in the background, requiring only a quick reboot to apply changes.

The feature aims to spare users from the frustration of extended "installing update" screens.

Seamless Updates: How They Work

Seamless updates rely on a dual-partition system, with one slot (A or B) running the operating system while the other acts as a backup. Updates are applied to the unused slot, and the device switches to it upon reboot. This not only ensures minimal disruption but also provides a safety net — if an update fails, the phone can revert to the previous version.

While this feature requires additional storage space, advancements in flagship phone storage capacities make it a minor trade-off for the convenience it offers.

Samsung Joins A/B Bandwagon

Although seamless updates were introduced with Android Nougat 7.1 back in 2016, Samsung was slow to adopt the technology. The Galaxy A55 update earlier this year marked the company's first step toward embracing this feature.

The Galaxy S25 series will now bring it to Samsung’s flagship lineup, marking a significant shift in the user experience.

In addition to seamless updates, the Galaxy S25 Ultra (model SM-S938) is expected to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, codenamed "pakala," promising cutting-edge performance for Samsung’s next-generation premium device.

With these advancements, the Galaxy S25 series appears poised to deliver not just enhanced functionality but also greater convenience for users.
