OnePlus Prez. Responds To Storage Type Concerns On OnePlus 12R, Confirms UFS 3.1 Storage
Expressing regret for the oversight, Liu extended an apology to customers who had purchased or pre-ordered the OnePlus 12R.
Amidst recent social media criticism regarding the storage specifications of the OnePlus 12R smartphone, OnePlus has issued a clarification statement. The company addressed concerns raised by users, confirming that the device features UFS 3.1 storage across all variants, contrary to initial reports suggesting the presence of UFS 4.0.
The controversy arose following discrepancies between what was initially stated by OnePlus and what users discovered upon closer inspection. At the time of the smartphone's launch, OnePlus had indicated that the base 128GB variant would have UFS 3.1 storage, while the 256GB variant would boast the faster UFS 4.0 technology.

UFS 4.0 storage is renowned for its improved read-and-write speeds and enhanced thermal management capabilities, particularly beneficial for power users. However, OnePlus President, Kinder Liu, acknowledged an error in communication regarding the storage specifications.
In a community post, Liu clarified, "Due to an error, we stated that the storage enhanced by Trinity Engine would be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1."
Expressing regret for the oversight, Liu extended an apology to customers who had purchased or pre-ordered the OnePlus 12R. He encouraged affected individuals to reach out to OnePlus' customer service team for further assistance.
While UFS 4.0 offers advantages in terms of faster transfer speeds and improved power efficiency compared to UFS 3.1, both versions ensure data encryption for enhanced security.
OnePlus AI Features
Meanwhile, a ColorOS update by OnePlus with three generative AI features, including an AI Summariser, an image editing tool and an article summary generator, is now rolling out for the latest OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11 models in China. While smartphone brands like Google and Samsung have already embraced generative AI in their flagship phones, OnePlus initially took a different approach with the OnePlus 12. However, this is changing as the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 in China are now gaining new generative AI capabilities through the latest ColorOS update, the media has reported.
Is is not clear whether OnePlus is going to to extend the generative AI capabilities to global versions of their flagship OnePlus devices, which operate on OxygenOS instead of ColorOS. However, given the nearly identical nature of both operating systems in every aspect, there seems to be no apparent reason why this wouldn't be possible.
