OnePlus Launching Budget Tablet In India Soon?

The OnePlus Pad Go is likely to be a watered-down version of the OnePlus Pad which was the company's first Android tab.

In line with previous leaks and rumours, handset maker OnePlus has teased a tablet which may be unveiled in India soon. The Android tab is purported OnePlus Pad Go and it will be a budget offering, unlike OnePlus' maiden tab, the OnePlus Pad (read our full review here: OnePlus Pad Review: A Spellbinding First Attempt). The smartphone maker has posted a teaser on X, formerly Twitter, indicating a possible launch in India.

OnePlus teased the OnePlus Pad Go on X and wrote: "The company has posted an image of the social media platform along with a caption which reads, “What's work without a little play! Take a guess. #AllPlayAllDay”

If rumours are to be believed, the OnePlus Pad Go will be a watered-down version of the OnePlus Pad which was the company's first Android tab. However, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt as there is no official leak by the company.

The budget tab by OnePlus had briefly appeared on the company's forums earlier this month, as spotted by leakster OneNormalUsername. According to a report by Android Authority, the tipster spotted a post on OnePlus Forums which was later removed and could not be seen again.

The post seen by the tipster on OnePlus forums referenced the OnePlus Pad Go and another device “OPD2304” in the device identifier fields. The budget Android tab may be launched in India and not all markets, globally. OneNormalUsername also spotted the OPD2304 model in the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website, indicating an imminent launch in India. The report added that the two tab model numbers spotted on BIS certification site were OPD2304, OPD2305 and they could possibly relate to two variants of the budget OnePlus Pad Go -- one could be a Wi-Fi model while the other is likely to be a Cellular variant the tablet.

The Indian tab market is dominated by players such as Samsung, taking the lead, followed by Apple and Lenovo which has a healthy portfolio of tablets.

The tab market in India is expected to post a growth of around 5-10 per cent this year, according to a market intelligence firm. The Indian market has seen some really capable devices launching in the past few quarters, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE, the Galaxy Tab S8, and of course, the Apple iPad Air (2022) Wi-Fi + Cellular. However, these are tablets that offer a rich user experience at a higher price point.
