MWC 2023: Tecno Phantom V Fold Launched For Under Rs 1 Lakh

Tecno's first foldable phone has been unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona, Spain, for under Rs 1 lakh.

The latest handset maker to join the foldable race is Tecno. The company's first foldable phone has been unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona, Spain, for under Rs 1 lakh. This comes soon after handset maker OnePlus also announced at MWC that it will launch its foldable device in the second half of this year. The foldable from Tecno is called Tecno Phantom V Fold and it will be available in India for Rs 89,999 for the base model with 12GB of RAM/256GB of storage. There is another model with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of memory that is available for Rs 99,999.

Tecno's first foldable is powered by MediaTek Dimencity SoC

The Tecno Phantom V Fold is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC paired with the Mali-G710 MC10 GPU and coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Rivals Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.

The Phantom V Fold runs on the Android 13 OS, with a layer of customised HiOS 13 Fold skin on top. In terms of display, the foldable has a 6.2-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED secondary screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The foldable LTPO AMOLED panel is 7.65-inch with 2K resolution and a punch-hole cutout design that houses a 16MP selfie camera.

In terms of imaging, there is a triple rear camera setup, led by a 50MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide angle camera and a 50MP 2X portrait sensor. The foldable is powered by a hefty 5,000mAh battery that is supported by 45W fast charging.

Meanwhile, OnePlus is working to launch its first foldable smartphone this year, the company confirmed recently at the MWC 2023. OnePlus made the announcement at its “From Fast & Smooth to Beyond” panel discussion at the MWC.

“Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience. It must be a flagship phone that doesn't settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market,” Kinder Liu, President and COO of OnePlus, said in a statement.

The launch of a foldable phone could be an important launch for OnePlus as there are chances of the device becoming globally available and becoming potential competition for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
