iPhone 16 Pro May Get Upgraded Ultra-Wide Angle Camera, Says Ming-Chi Kuo

The iPhone 16 Pro is said to get another substantial upgrade in the form of a bigger screen size of 6.27 inches.

Famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF Securities has suggested that Apple is mulling to enhance the camera setup on the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. The upcoming iPhone Pro model is expected to feature an upgraded ultra-wide angle camera while the smaller iPhone 16 Pro is said to sport the tetraprism telephoto camera setup, which we have seen in last year's iPhone 15 Pro Max. Additionally, there are speculations about Apple improving the selfie camera for the iPhone 17 series.

The iPhone 16 Pro is said to get another substantial upgrade in the form of a bigger screen size of 6.27 inches.

In a Medium article, the analyst has noted that Apple intends to enhance the camera setup of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max by transitioning from a 12-megapixel sensor to a 48-megapixel sensor. According to Kuo, the upgraded sensor is likely to produce 12-megapixel images through pixel binning, resulting in improved image quality compared to the previous-gen iPhone 15 Pro models.

According to the analyst, Genius Electronic Optical, based in Taiwan, is set to play a key role as a major supplier for the ultra-wide angle lens on the Apple iPhone 16 Pro models. Additionally, the tech giant is expected to manufacture the tetraprism telephoto lens for the smaller iPhone 16 Pro model, aligning its optical zoom performance with that of the larger Pro model.

Last year's iPhone 15 Pro Max is equipped with a standard 48-megapixel main sensor, complemented by two 12-megapixel sensors for ultra-wide and telephoto capabilities. Notably, it featured seven distinct focal lengths, enhancing the versatility of the cameras and providing users with a multitude of photography options and styles. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max introduced unprecedented optical and digital zoom capabilities, boasting 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.

According to a pre rumour, Apple is mulling to incorporate the Action button across all four models in the purported iPhone 16 series. While the mute switch successor was initially exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models this year, it appears that Apple intends to extend it to the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus next year. Additionally, rumours also suggest that the Action button on the iPhone 16 series will be capacitive, employing force sensor feedback similar to the TouchID sensors on older iPhones and the Force Touch trackpad found on MacBooks, according to MacRumors.

The new Action button is likely to come with the iPhone SE 4 too, which is said to debut in 2025.

The report also suggests that unlike the conventional mechanical buttons found on the volume and power keys, the updated Action Button will adopt capacitive-style functionality.

Based on internal documentation, the MacRumors report noted, enhanced Action button will incorporate a force sensor to detect pressure changes, along with "tact-switching functionality," although the specific details of the latter remain unclear. The upcoming "Capture" button slated for the iPhone 16 series is also expected to comprise the same functionality as the upgraded Action button.
