New iPad Pro Has A Display Issue. Know Everything About It

Apple has just launched its first tablets with OLED displays, significantly enhancing display quality. However, some early users are encountering issues with the panels. Several users via Reddit posts have reported a strange grainy problem, as spotted by iMore. During the time spent with the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, the publication encountered a replicable issue that causes a strange glitch when watching certain HDR content.

Under relatively specific conditions, HDR highlights are overexposed on certain shades of blue, such as navy and indigo, to the extent that they almost appear white on screen, the iMore report further added. An effective way to observe this is by examining a character wearing a navy blue shirt -- the folds seem to shimmer, resembling a spider’s web on the surface, or sometimes appear like a fluid, dark blob moving over it.

The report from added iMore, Apple is aware of the issue and is actively developing a software solution to address it. However, the company has not disclosed a timeline for the fix, and it hasn't been included in the latest iPadOS 17.5 update. Therefore, it's possible that it will be addressed in a subsequent 17.5.1 update. The cause of the glitch has not been confirmed yet, but it may be related to the image processing engine requiring further clarity when rendering highlights in that particular colour range.

There is speculation that the issue may stem from a misalignment in Apple's "tandem OLED display." Some users suggest it might be the mura effect, a common issue in OLED panels, including smartphones. However, it is more noticeable on the iPad due to the relatively lower 264 ppi on the 11" and 13" iPad Pro models.

It is likely that this is the same issue that affected some Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra units earlier this year. Samsung initially claimed it was a feature, not a bug, but eventually provided a fix. It s now to be seen how Apple handles this situation with the new iPad Pro.
