New Delhi: Handset maker Honor has just announced the name of its first foldable smartphone that is likely to be unveiled with the top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and it may have a price tag of roughly 10,000 that translates into Rs 1,18,500. Honor's first foldable will be called Honor Magic V and it is currently in the work.
Previous rumours suggested that Honor's foldable device, the purported Honor Magic X, may be unveiled in the fourth quarter of 2021. However, it is not yet confirmed if the Honor Magic V would feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
According to the handset maker's teaser, the Honor Magic V can be seen with flat edges. The image does not confirm the official launch date, but the company mentioned that the device is “coming soon”. The smartphone OEM has also posted the teaser on its official Weibo handle.
According to famed leakster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming foldable from Honor is likely to be the first foldable smartphone to be powered by the latest top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. Earlier in June, several reports emerged that suggested Honor was developing a foldable a device and that the folding display panels were being provided by China's BOE and Visionox.
Earlier in 2019, Honor had reportedly said it was keen to release a foldable. The company’s CEO George Zhao was quoted as saying in a CNET report that he was interested in producing a foldable under the Honor brand but expressed concerns that the device would be too expensive for Honor’s younger target market.
Honor was the sub-brand of Chinese tech behemoth Huawei that was subjected to trade sanctions by the US, citing security concerns. It split from parent firm Huawei last year following the sanctions imposed by the US.
