New Delhi: The first Google Pixel smartwatch may feature a Samsung Exynos chipset and house the next-generation Google Assistant, says a new report. This comes days after the marketing images of the Google Pixel Watch were leaked that suggested the device would sport a round body and a low-profile touch screen with rounded edges.

In a recent update to a Google app, we’ve found a mention of “PIXEL_EXPERIENCE_WATCH” which strongly suggests Google’s first-party smartwatch will indeed carry the “Pixel” name, says a new report by 9to5Google. It is also likely that the Pixel Watch may have features that are currently not available on other Wear OS watches.

Since 2014, Google has been developing its own Wear OS software platform. However, the company has never sold a Google-branded smartwatch with the Wear OS software. Over the years, there have been rumours of a smartwatch with Pixel, a brand of consumer electronic devices developed by Google. The much-awaited and long-rumoured Google Pixel Watch may finally launch in 2022, a report had suggested a few days back.

Google plans to release a smartwatch under the codename Rohan, and is currently working on it. The tech giant is expected to run the latest version of Wear OS, equipped with a circular design called "no physical bezel", along with health and fitness tracking. Samsung produces its Galaxy Watch series in multiple sizes, but it is not known whether Google too will release its Pixel Watch in multiple sizes, the report said.

The watch will reportedly require daily charging, like some other Wear OS smartwatches. It supposedly uses proprietary bands on its watches like Apple. However, companies like Fossil, Samsung and Mobvoi use standard bands on their watches, which give the watches thousands of affordable options for replacement bands.
