Apple Is Bringing This BIG Change To 'Hey Siri' At WWDC 2023

Apple users may have to use only "Siri" along with a command instead of "Hey Siri", in a big update to the virtual assistant.

Apple is likely to drop "Hey Siri" trigger phrase this year at WWDC 2023. According to news agency Bloomberg, Apple users may have to use only "Siri" along with a command instead of "Hey Siri", in a big update to the virtual assistant. Gurman, in a tweet, mentioned that the change to the ‌Siri‌ trigger phrase may be among at the tech giant's announcement today.

"Everyone is asking about Siri, AI and WWDC on Monday. One item I haven’t mentioned in a while has been a major project to drop the “Hey” from “Hey Siri.” I’d look out for that possibility next week," Gurman posted on Twitter.

This would be similar to what retail giant Amazon has done with its virtual assistant Alexa, which can be triggered simply by beginning a command with "Alexa". Gurman also noted that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant is also working on deeper ‌Siri‌ integrations with third-party apps and services to provide better assistance thanks to additional context.

The update to Siri could be rolled out this year or the next year. Apple's employees have been testing the change in trigger words to collect adequate training data, reports suggest.

Apart from announcing hardware that includes "several Macs", according to Mark Hurman, Apple is highly likely to announce iOS 17 at the 2023 edition of its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The tech giant is likely to unveil a range of new products and the company's much-awaited AR/VR headset. Apple traditionally, announces software offerings, including updated variants of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS at the annual WWDC conference that begins today (June 5) and runs through June 9.

When it comes to the release date of iOS 17, the latest version of iOS, we can expect iOS 17 to be available as a developer beta after Apple's WWDC keynote on Monday (June 5). It is pertinent to note that developer beta seed is available to only registered Apple developers. Apple has traditionally followed a predictable schedule and according to that it is likely to release a public beta of iOS 17, a few weeks after WWDC 2023. This means it may be rolled out by the end of June or the first few weeks of July, reports suggest.
