Apple Vision Pro 2 Powered By M5 Chip Might Launch In 2026, Here's All You Need To Know

There’s a possibility that a product announcement for the next generation of Apple Vision Pro could occur this year, with a release slated for 2026.

Apple is reportedly working on a follow-up to its Vision Pro, the company's first mixed-reality headset, though the next iteration is unlikely to be released before 2026. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this device remains in the early stages of development. The Vision Pro, originally unveiled during the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), was positioned as a niche product primarily targeting developers. Since its debut, speculation has grown about its successor, which could potentially launch in the coming years.

In addition to the rumored Vision Pro 2, Apple is also believed to be developing another wearable headset. This new device is expected to serve as a more budget-friendly alternative to the Vision Pro, making mixed-reality technology accessible to a broader audience.

Apple Vision Pro Successor: What Do We Know?

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman reveals that Apple’s roadmap for 2025 does not feature any new Vision Pro hardware. However, there’s a possibility that a product announcement could occur this year, with a release slated for 2026. This aligns with Gurman’s earlier predictions suggesting a launch window between late 2025 and early 2026. The upcoming device is expected to be powered by Apple’s M5 chipset, an upgrade from the M2 SoC currently driving the first-generation Vision Pro.

Reports suggest that the successor may retain the design of the existing Vision Pro, with most updates focused on internal improvements. These changes are anticipated to enhance the human-machine user interface, addressing one of the critical challenges faced by head-mounted display devices.

In parallel, Apple is also prioritising the development of a more affordable Vision Pro model, which Gurman describes as a “more urgent goal.” While no specific launch timeline has been disclosed, earlier reports hint that this budget-friendly version may not debut until after 2027. It is expected to feature cost-cutting measures such as the use of less expensive materials, lower-tier chips, reduced XR display quality, and the exclusion of features like EyeSight.
