Apple Might Introduce 'ProMotion' Technology To iPhone 17 Series' Base Variants
Apple might be planning to bring ProMotion technology to the base models of the iPhone 17 series too.
Apple is reportedly planning to introduce its ProMotion display technology across the entire iPhone 17 lineup, according to a report by 9To5Google. This move could bring higher refresh rate displays to all models, significantly enhancing the scrolling and user experience throughout the range. Currently, ProMotion is exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max variants, enabling dynamic refresh rates of up to 120Hz using Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) technology.
In contrast, the standard iPhone models are limited to a fixed 60Hz refresh rate. With the iPhone 17 series, even the base models are expected to benefit from smoother refresh rates. However, Apple is likely to maintain a distinction between its standard and Pro models.

Apple iPhone 17: What Do We Know
Reports suggest that while the base iPhone 17 models may feature a refresh rate of up to 90Hz, the Pro and Pro Max variants will retain their superior 120Hz refresh capability. This upgrade for the standard models would still represent a significant improvement, narrowing the performance gap between the tiers while preserving the premium features of the Pro lineup.
This change reflects Apple’s ongoing strategy of incorporating more advanced features into its standard iPhone models. For example, the iPhone 16 series made the Action Button, which was previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models, available across the entire range. Other features, such as Apple Intelligence tools and a new Camera Control button, were also made standard across all iPhone 16 devices.
Moreover, all iPhone 16 models are powered by the same chipset generation, with the Pro variants featuring the A18 Pro chip, offering enhanced capabilities compared to the standard A18 chip in the base models. The iPhone 17 series is expected to continue this trend of narrowing the gap between the Pro and non-Pro models, while still maintaining certain distinctions between them.
