'Fortnite Has Been Freed On iOS': Epic Games Launches Its App Store In EU After A Long Battle

Epic Games CEO, while reacting to this launch, said, “Apple continues to block Fortnite from a billion players in the rest of the world, and the battle rages on to restore free market competition.”

Epic Games recently announced that it has launched its app store on iOS in the European region as well as on Android globally, after a long legal battle. This app store from the house of Epic Games is known as Epic Games store and it made its debut in the EU with games like Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys. This recent development by the Epic Games was made possible after last year's EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), which resorted to Apple having to open its platform to third party app stores. 

Epic Games will finally get what it fought for, it will be able to use its own payment processor to allow users to make in-app purchases.

Fortnite Arrives On iOS Finally

Epic Games had recently announced that the Epic Games store will be available on iOS in EU and across the globe on Android. It is now adding its games to third-party store AltStore PAL (Phase Alternate Line). Users will now be able to download and install games from the Epic Games store if they are residing in eligible regions.

The company has released step-by-step video guides for installing its app store on both iOS and Android devices. These installations will allow users to play the mobile version of Fortnite, which is launching its Chapter 5, Season: Absolute Doom, this Friday.

The publisher emphasised that the detailed instructions were necessary because iOS and Android have made the installation process difficult on purpose, adding multiple steps, confusing settings, and warning screens. The company also mentioned that it will continue to challenge these platforms in court and collaborate with global regulators to eliminate anti-competitive practices.

Moreover, the company announced plans to introduce third-party games to the Epic Games Store in the coming month. It also expressed its ambition to bring these games to iOS in the UK and Japan in the next few years, though it did not specify how it plans to achieve this.
