OpenAI Launches AI-Powered Chatbot Named ChatGPT. Know Everything

Artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory OpenAI has announced ChatGPT, which is a dialogue-based AI chat interface for GPT-3 family of large language models.

Artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory OpenAI has announced ChatGPT, which is a dialogue-based AI chat interface for GPT-3 family of large language models.

"The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests," OpenAI said in a statement, as per its blog page.

Currently, it is free to use with an OpenAI account during a testing phase. Unlike the GPT-3 model found in OpenAI's Playground and API, ChatGPT comes with a user-friendly conversational interface and is designed to strongly limit potentially harmful output. GPT-3, or the third generation Generative Pre-trained Transformer, is a neural network machine learning model trained using internet data to generate any type of text.

ChatGPT has invited users to give feedback and learn about its strengths and weaknesses. ChatGPT is a sibling model to InstructGPT, which follows instructions and prompts and provides detailed responses.

The model was trained using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), using the same methods as InstructGPT, but with slight differences in the data collection setup, according to the blog post. However, the company said that the AI chat interface comes with many limitations and they plan to make regular model updates to improve in such areas.

"Users are encouraged to provide feedback on problematic model outputs through the UI, as well as on false positives/negatives from the external content filter which is also part of the interface," said OpenAI.

"We are particularly interested in feedback regarding harmful outputs that could occur in real-world, non-adversarial conditions, as well as feedback that helps us uncover and understand novel risks and possible mitigations," OpenAI added.

Meanwhile, it has been pointed out that ChatGPT is not free of flaws as it is still falling victim to racist and sexist biases. According to Steven T Piantadosi, a professor at UC Berkeley, heading the "Computation and language lab (colala)" at the varsity, ChatGPT is is not without biases. He posted a thread on Twitter highlighting the issues with the chatbot.

"Yes, ChatGPT is amazing and impressive. No, @OpenAI has not come close to addressing the problem of bias. Filters appear to be bypassed with simple tricks, and superficially masked. And what is lurking inside is egregious. @Abebab @sama tw racism, sexism," the US Berkeley professor tweeted.
