Who Can Contest For AIADMK General Secretary Post? Here's What The New Rules Say

A decision has been made in the AIADMK General Council meeting regarding who can contest for the post of AIADMK General Secretary

Chennai: A decision has been made in the AIADMK General Council meeting regarding who can contest for the post of AIADMK General Secretary. The post of General Secretary has been re-created in AIADMK. A new post of Deputy General Secretary has also been created. Edappadi Palaniswami has been selected as the interim general secretary for the next four months. It has also been announced that the general secretary election will be held in four months. Rules for this have also been announced.

Here are the new rules:

  • The General Secretary shall be elected by the party members.
  • To take part in the general secretary elections, one must be a party member for at least 10 years continuously.
  • Should have served for five consecutive years in leadership roles.
  • Candidates should be nominated by 10 district secretaries.
  • The district secretary can nominate and direct only one candidate.
  • Those who fulfill these qualifications can contest for the post of AIADMK General Secretary.
  • Deputy General Secretary will be appointed by the General Secretary.

1974 - MG Ramachandran
1978 - Nedunchezhiyan
1980 - PU Shanmugam
1985 - Ragavanandam
1986 - MG Ramachandran
1991 - Jayalalithaa
2016 - Sasikala
2022 - Edappadi Palaniswami.
