AIADMK General Council Meet: EPS Appointed Interim General Secretary Amid Violent Protests

AIADMK Power Tussle: Edappadi Palaniswami on Monday appointed as the interim General Secretary for the party in a general council meet

Chennai: Edappadi Palaniswami on Monday appointed as the interim General Secretary for the party in a General Council meet after a major setback for O Panneerselvam as the Madras High Court rejected the plea to stay the conduct of the general council meet. The General Secretary elections will be held within four months.

The General Council adopted resolutions for reviving the general secretary post and to ensure electing a person for the post by the primary members of the party. The General Council further passed resolution to squash dual leadership for AIADMK and create a Deputy General Secretary post for the party. It also adopted a resolution that AIADMK Deputy General Secretary will be selected by party's General Secretary.

After Justice Krishnan Ramasamy observes that the majority of AIADMK members are in favour of conducting the GC meet, violent protests erupted between OPS-EPS factions as both the camps hurled stones at each other, ahead of the AIADMK General Council meet on Monday.

Meanwhile, a video surfaced in which the OPS supporters are seen slapping slippers at E Palaniswami's photo as they protest AIADMK's General Council meeting in Vanagaram, Chennai. Police imposed Section 144 and took control of the AIADMK headquarters.

Former Minister KP Munusamy, a supporter of EPS accuses O Panneerselvam of indulging in violence at AIADMK headquarters. He said seats have already been allotted on the dais for OPS, and others at the party general council meeting in Vanagaram. "They should have come here to voice their views."
