TN Tableau Row: DMK MP Kanimozhi Releases Video On VO Chidambaranar With Hindi Subtitles
The video ends with the word 'Samjha' reportedly as a response to the committee to finalize the tableau since they asked if VOC was a businessman and why he should be included in the tableau.
Chennai: After Tamil Nadu government gave a reply to the Centre for rejecting the state’s tableau by assuring to showcase the tableau in Tamil Nadu’s R-Day celebration, now the DMK has taken the issue to give an explanation on why the freedom fighters are important in the Indian Freedom struggle. On Friday, Tamil Nadu MP and DMK women's wing secretary Kanimozhi Karunanidhi released a 160-second video about freedom fighter VO Chidambaranar, titled 'The Name is VO Chidambaranar' on her Twitter handle in English with Hindi subtitles.
The disclaimer of the video said that the video was created solely to highlight the significance of Tamil leaders in English with Hindi subtitles for a broader reach and better understanding.
The video then started with, "Are you really not aware of who V.O.C is?" and then went on to explain the role of the leader in the freedom struggle. It explained about the Swadeshi movement, his shipping company against the British EIC, his imprisonment and other important events of his life.
The video then ended with the statement, "VOC is an everlasting name not only in the history of Tamil Nadu but also in the history of Indian Independence. Samjha.”
The committee to finalize the tableau allegedly asked if VOC was a businessman and why he should be included in the tableau. Therefore, the video was released as a reply to highlight his works in the freedom struggle.
The controversy started after the Centre rejected a tableau of Tamil Nadu government proposed for the Republic Day celebration. The Tamil Nadu CM Stalin soon announced that the rejected tableau will be part of the R-Day celebration in Chennai.
