Thiruvanmiyur MRTS Heist Case: Railway Ticket Clerk Arrested For Robbing Rs 1.3 Lakh

The robbery incident in one of the busiest stations raised an alarm and threw light on the lack of CCTV facilities in the station. 

Chennai: In an unexpected twist railway ticket clerk, who alleged that masked men robbed Rs 1.3 lakh cash from Tiruvanmiyur MRTS station, was arrested by the police for staging a drama and swindling the cash along with his wife. On Monday wee hours, railway ticket clerk Tikka Ram from Rajasthan alleged that masked men entered the Thiruvanmiyur MRTS and robbed Rs 1.3 lakh. 

According to a report on ABP Nadu, the worker on Monday alleged that masked men robbed him off at the ticket counter by pointing guns, abusing him in Tamil. He also alleged that he was tied up by a masked intruder when the other two members emptied the safety lock and fled the scene around 4.15 am.

Based on his statement, the police formed two special forces under SP Adiveerapandian to nab the accused.

However, a detailed investigation revealed that the guest worker Tikka Ram itself stagged a drama and robbed the cash along with his wife. 

The incident came to light after police accessed CCTV footage of nearby companies which showed Tikka Ram's wife coming to the railway station in the wee hours of Monday. 

Hence, the police intensified the probe where Tikka Ram confessed that he handed over Rs 1.3 lakh cash to his wife. 

Based on the confession, the police have started to investigate further to get details of whether other persons were involved in the crime.
