Tamil Nadu Tops Niti Aayog's Energy Efficiency Index, Gujarat Leads In SECI Score
The index was made by taking into account energy intensity and the effort of the state to save energy in all public, commercial and industrial buildings.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu topped the list of states in Niti Aayog's Energy Efficiency Index by earning a score of 85.4 much higher than the national average of 29.05. Most of the states scored more than the national average but not as much as Tamil Nadu.
The index was made by taking into account energy intensity and the effort of the state to save energy in all public, commercial and industrial buildings.
According to the Niti Aayog's data, on the other hand, Chhattisgarh performed poorly by receiving a clear zero.
Among union territories, Delhi topped the list by scoring 43.9 while Sikkim topped the smaller states by scoring 33.3 points.

Further, Gujarat topped Niti Aayog's State Energy and Climate Index. Among the small state, Goa topped the list while Chandigarh topped the list among the seven union territories.
Followed by Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand topped the list respectively.

The index was formulated to highlight the performance of each state on energy and climate issues in order to help the country keep up with the global commitments of increasing non-fossil fuel power and reducing emission intensity.
The index was made based on six parameters including power distribution companies' performance, affordability, access, reliability of energy supply, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability among others.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the event, NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar pressed on the need for achieving Panchamrit target set by PM Modi at COP-26, Glasgow.
