Tamil Nadu: Round-The-Clock Covid Vaccination Centres To Come Up Across State, Health Minister Says

The minister inaugurated the first such vaccination centre at the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine located on the premises of the Directorate of Medical Services in Chennai. 

Chennai: All government medical college hospitals in Tamil Nadu will offer round-the-clock Covid-19 vaccination from Monday, state Health Minister Ma Subramanian said on Saturday. 

The minister inaugurated the first such vaccination centre at the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine located on the premises of the Directorate of Medical Services in Chennai. 

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the centre, the minister said that 24-hour vaccination centres would start functioning in all government medical college hospitals across all districts. In those districts where there are no government medical college hospitals, like in Mayiladuthurai and Perambalur, the centres would function in district government hospitals.

According to a report from The Hindu, the 24-hour vaccination centres will come up at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Government Medical College Hospital at Omandurar Estate, Government Royapettah Hospital, Government Stanley Medical College Hospital and Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in Chennai. 

Quoting the minister, the report said that the vaccination centres were set up to speed up the pace of vaccination and to ensure that people, especially those who are employed and travelling, could get vaccinated easily. People can walk into the centres to avail vaccination with a proof of residence, the report added. 

The minister also said, according to the report, that they had advised the officials concerned to ensure 100 per cent vaccination at all tourist spots, especially spiritual centres, and as a result, the vaccination process has been sped up in multiple places. While 100%m per cent vaccination has been reached in Kodaikanal, 98 per cent vaccination has been reached in Palani and it will cover the entire population in another couple of days, the minister added.
